My 6.4 sure seems to be getting a lot of attention here lately

I've held a class A CDL for a decade now and work with heavy trucks every day. If someone gave me a Cummins, I'd trade it in on a gasser. My style of driving would kill a modern diesel, and not be great for an old school oil burner either. They are not made for my 5 mile commute. I need my...

New tranny already.. need to regear for 37’s.

quick point; there is more at play than just the tires leverage on the ground. You have the increased rolling resistance, the higher rotational mass, the aero hit from the lift, sharper driveline angles, etc. that is why most people would go beyond just equalizing for the speedometer error when...

    Tradesman with power wagon package?

The big thing for me would be the power seats. without power seats, the trucks don't have enough head-room.

    5000lb trailer/550lb tongue weight

there is zero call for a 3/4 ton for such a light trailer. I would suggest the deeper gear option to let it use OD more, but that would be it, and even that isn't a must have. That truck is made to pull twice that day in and day out. Yes, more weight = more wear and tear, but you could say the...

IMPORTANT FOR AMSOIL AND AMSOIL FILTER USERS 6.4L

Fram is paper garbage. If the Amsoil lacks dirt capacity, don't use it. There isn't a pile of difference in a 35 micron filter and a 20 micron filter. I assume these rating are both Beta 1000? If the test procedures are not specified, the numbers are meaningless. I deal with hydraulic system...

    TRX vs Durango Hellcat

The Durango looks like it is going to be a 1 year only model, so that would be the only reason in my mind to get that one over the TRX.

been seriously thinking about a 450/4500 with a single wheel conversion.

How many don’t use a weight distribution hitch?

I had a very large enclosed trailer (since sold). When I picked it up, I didn't yet have my WD hitch. It was a bit scary bringing it home with my 1/2t, but doable. With the WD hitch it was great. I used it for moving. 1 trip I made with Dad's then new F350 SWR. Without the WD hitch, it was OK...

    DRW and snow chains

Either get a set of chains made to cover both wheels together or just do the outers. That would be a huge ordeal to do the inners, if that is what you ae asking. General rule of thumb "if you need to put on your chains, you shouldn't be on the road." So really, only get what is legally required...

19 3500 HO Cummins No Throttle Respons

Maybe 5 years ago, I drove a heavy garbage truck from Vegas, with an Allison and a 12L Cummins, back to the UP of MI. I was 10:1 fuel:def. I had to fill the DEF tank with every other fuel fill (fairly small fuel tank on that truck). So I guess what I am saying is that when you complain about DEF...

Did you buy a Gasser or a Diesel?

I have zero desire for an oil burner. Even if the Cummins was a free upgrade, I'd pass. I drove big trucks for over a decade, so I know diesels. I just wouldn't get any benefits from one. My driving style would probably make the 6.7 less reliable than the 6.4, maintenance would be drastically...

    Front Driveshaft no grease fitting?

you can of course change your U-joints to greaseable, but why do it before they fail? non-greaseable are actually slightly stronger since they don't have holes drilled in them.

    Frame rust

worse than the UP, I lived around Detroit for part of both of these vehicle's life. The region makes its money selling new cars, and they built it over a huge salt deposit. That said, I've seen plenty of local vehicles just as bad.

    Frame rust

frame failures I have experience with nearly all start from crap trapped inside the frame tubes. If its not a once and done, subsequent applications will just cover dirt. seems to me the frame sections need to be filled or be completely open. that is why I am looking at the >1 ton truck options...

    Frame rust

The only two vehicles I have ever purchased new were taken off the road with frame rust damage. I am desperate for a solution to frame rust. I am actually considering a 4500/5500 class of vehicle because they have heavier C channel frames instead of the thin wall hydroformed garbage found in so...

    Caution! Frame rusted, unsafe

Frame rot is what kills vehicles these days it would seem. New frames are made to trap dirt inside of them, then you have that these hydroformed frames are drastically thinner than frame in the past, so it doesn't take too much corrosion to turn them into swiss cheese. I still have the first 2...

Your Dad was BSing you. Sounds like it worked, but this claim is not physically possible. Much more down-force would be needed to have enough traction to overcome wind resistance to maintain that speed.

Got some V or better speed rated tires on your Ram? I think the OEM tires are Q rated, and that is why it is governed where it is.

    Air Shocks or Not?

Air is great. If I only kept my truck 5 years or less, it wouldn't even bee a question. I keep vehicle 10 years plus. As such, I'd probably not get the air ride. ps. I absolutely love the air ride on my snowmobile, but if that air system fails it has springs too. I'd just kick up the preload a...

Best way to get a discount off of MSRP on a Ram that's 1500 miles away?

I agree with your prediction for the future. As such, you might want to rethink the no financing thinking. If you are at a fixed financing, say 3%, and we get explosive late 70s, Jimmy Carter, style inflation, you are actually making money if you had financed it.
