1500 vs 2500 for towing travel trailer (downhill)

This is from our 7000k mile trip.
The weight slip is done when we got home.
The trip was from Southern Illinois, to 29 Palms, (at which time I installed air bags in the rear) up to Spokane, WA via Portland.
From there we went down to Vegas, then onward home.

The wind was very bad across the lower portions of NV/AZ. I have been missing my 06 Ram 3500, CRD ever since!

With that, I am still amazed how this 1500 handled the trip, especially in the mountains!
The TT is a '19 Sundance 241Bh. About 31' tip to tip.

I've been debating g about a bigger rig....but we've only had this truck for about 7 months.

Are those weights that gas vs gas? How much more weight would basic diesel Add? Most of the guys I know, who bought diesels also got dually's. But they earn their money with them and drag around large fifth wheels when they vacation with them, truly a great truck that can usually do even more than it is advertised to do.

The 6.7 diesel engine adds about 900 pounds to the 2500 truck. Which takes 900 pounds away from your cargo capacity unless you go up to the 3500.

Your drive axle lost gained a lot of weight with the trailer attached. I'm surprised you didn't get a little light in the steering.

To correct myself, I meant gained a lot of weight; 1000# is a lot for a 1500. Unless I'm reading that wrong.

Yes I did. The weights were all messed up.
But even with that, the truck never exhibited any handling issues other than a low rear end.

I consider pulling the load 25% of it and stopping the load 75% of it. We have a 2500 CTD and pull a 28’ 7k bumper pull TT. Can’t tell the trailer is back there going up or coming down. We don’t get to travel nearly as much as we would like but usually get in about 5k miles a year. Have NEVER felt like we have too much vehicle for any situation. Towing or going to the grocery store.
