I don't know what the hell it was but I ran something over and it busted a nice chunk out of the fake chrome cover on my wheel. Does anyone know if I can just buy the chrome clad piece and not a whole new wheel?

You might have to buy the entire rim, not 100% on that.

I'd love to remove the plastic chrome covers entirely but they are stuck on plus the balancing weights are wrapped around them.

I was doing some market research on what kind of wheels people like and stumbled across these comments. I figured since I used to work for one of the companies that made chrome-clad wheels I’d offer some facts that may be helpful.

You called them fake chrome, however, they are the same high quality chrome used in grilles with a full layer of copper, nickel and chrome (Cu-Ni-Cr). There is no such thing as plastic chrome although there are some companies that make chrome thinner than others. When it comes to repairing your wheel unfortunately there is no way to repair the cladding if you damage it. If you damage the flange there are wheel repair shops that can fix that.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure he meant fake wheel and not fake chrome.
I loved these wheels the first time I saw them and wouldn't buy a truck that didn't have them, when I was shopping.
I can't tell you how pissed I was when I found out they were plastic.
I guess it's a good thing chrome is losing its popularity, so these wheels are relatively easy to find. They're certainly easy to damage, no matter how thick the chrome is.
