2002 shifter issues

Tonight while backing up to my car trailer the shifter cable fell off my trans. I pushed it back on and it was fine. I am going to look at it tomorrow but has any one ever had this problem?

There is a clip that can fail that holds the cable in place. Replace it with a new one.
