I have a 2003 with a Hemi. I also have a 2005 Hemi motor that came out of a Durango. I am going to swap the 2005 into my truck. My question is this. The 2005 motor came with the computer and the engine wiring harness. Is it worth it, or even possible to swap in the 2005 computer also? I know it allows for more tuning options and such. But I don't want to open a huge big can of worms either.

You can drop the engine straight in, plug the EGR and go. 2005 Durango is not a 2005 Ram however. You would need to run part numbers to see if the PCM is even compatible. Will be a different harness though. Are you doing this engine swap because your original is toast, because there's no difference (other than EGR) between that 03 5.7 and that particular 05 5.7.

Thanks for the info. I figured I'd just have to block off the EGR, and be good to go. My engine isn't dead yet, but it has a pretty good tick. I've had the Hemi tick before and fixed it by replacing lifters. The original engine didn't appear that is well taken care of by the way the heads looked. There was quite a bit of sludge in them. Since it has started ticking, or knocking again, I decided to just get a replacement ready. The 2005 only has 100k miles on it. I'm going to pull the heads and replace lifters and pushrod just to be safe. I'll know more about what else i need to do once i get the heads off.

I should have specified, you need to block EGR for both the cylinder head AND intake manifold (or use your 2003 intake). Also you need to use your 2003 throttle body as the plug will be different on the 2005.

Does the 2005 Dakota engine use the truck front cover?

The 2005 Hemi is from a Durango. It appears to use the same intake and such as my 2003. Only difference I see is the EGR.

You can use the 03 intake manifold, the 05 tb is the same except (as mentioned) for it's plug which can be spliced onto the harness. The egr port on the head can be tapped and a plug screwed in.
