2004 ram 1500 4x4 hemi, burning a decent amount of oil between cahnges. Approaching 90000 miles, and those are very hard miles, the truck has been everywhere from the sands of the mjoave desert to the giant snowstorm the northeast got 2 years ago. Considering a switch to synthetic. The truck still runs like a champ, has the "tick" but it no worse than normal. Just burning a quart or more between change, sometimes up to 2 quarts. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum second hitting up Heath. Sadly dodge says up to 2 quarts in 3k is normaly, luckly 95% of us dont have any of those issues. Wonder if its coming out of somewhere or being actualy burned slowly through the motor.

idk....if i was burning through that much I wouldn't want to keep dumping expensive synthetic in there.

Do they say that for all vehicles? I knew they said that for the pacifica's since the majority of them were burning through that much oil every 3k, but if they say it for one model why not just expand it to all model...LOL

Flag to hear that about the Pacifica. Wife has one and it burns my Amsoil about a qt every 2-3k. Drives me nuts. I would venture that switching won't solve the problem and will cost you more. The only good thing about having to add oil is you are keeping it fresh so it's at it's best whether syn or not.

Early Hemis were sopp to be going through oil.. but im guessing that is gonna be the rule of thumb for most of the motors now sadly.

Switch to a high mileage semi-synthetic...I prefer Castrol GTX High Mileage...it has a more robust additive package built into it that helps prevent oil burnoff and helps condition seals. If you are leaking oil, the worse thing you can do is go to a full synthetic, because synthetic molecules are smaller than conventional and they will hunt leaks.
