Hello everybody, hope you all are doing well. Listen... I know this topic has been discussed, I've read every single thread on multiple forums of this topic. But none of them had a definitive how-to with an end result. There are a lot of threads on swapping an '05 PCM into and '03 Ram but there are no similarities between the '03 and the '04 as the '04 and '05 are more similar to one another. So I'd really love to get a thread started on this topic that is the end all with a final finished solution and info from those of you who have actually successfully swapped the '05 PCM into an '04 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and automatic transmission.

Why do the PCM swap from the 2004 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi to the 2005 5.7 Hemi PCM? Shift points.... From my understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong. But the only difference between the options between 2004 and 2005 is the ability to modify the shift points of the transmission. This feature was disabled in the 2004 PCM from all the tuner options such as DiabloSport, HPTuners, and SCT... But in 2005 the shift point features were enabled for modification, which is pretty sweet because the factory shift points from Dodge are less than desirable...

So, this is where I'd love to get the help from those of you who have done this, and without a doubt know the facts on what to do and how to do this swap. Guessing just muddles up the thread and confuses those who are trying to properly do this PCM swap.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Rumble Bee, and in my possession I have the PCM, engine harness, transmission harness, and VIN all from the same non-SKIM 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT with 5.7 Hemi that is 2WD all identical to my truck. I know I cannot just swap the PCM over and think it's going to work, which means the PCM will have to be reflashed. This is where I'm confused, does the PCM get reflashed with my 2004 Ram's VIN, or does it get reflashed with the VIN from the '05 Ram?

I'm confused because, reflashing with the '05 VIN won't change the PCM settings at all... But wouldn't reflashing with my '04 VIN make the PCM exactly like the PCM that's already in my truck now?? So like, I wouldn't have access to the shift points like I currently don't. From the reading I've done the PCM between 2004-2008 is the same part number, or is this incorrect? Is there something about the '05 PCM that is different that allows access to the shift points?

Second, once you're past the reflashing of the PCM, would I reuse the engine/trans harnesses currently in my '04? Or would I need to swap over to the '05 engine/trans harness that I bought with the PCM? I tried looking for a quality pin-out of both harnesses but kept coming up empty.

The TL/DR version:

What profile for the PCM do I use, 04 or 05?
What engine/trans harness is used 04 or 05?

Thanks for the help! I really hope we can get a complete thread on this from start to finish... If so I'll probably write up a step by step how-to at a later date.
