Hey guys. Recent Ford convert back with an issue.
A little background: Truck is a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab short bed 4x4 with an automatic transmission. 1 owner vehicle with 97k miles.
During test drive the truck was ran down to fumes. Would not start after the purchase (go figure, right?). Put gas in it, finally started up. Everything good. I drive home. Next morning it would start, die, start, die, start, die, etc. It will do this 5-10 times then finally stay running. I put a can of Berryman B12 into the gas tank and filled it up to half a tank, drove around until empty, filled it up again. It seemed to clear up over the course of the next day. Dealership takes it back, they can't get it to do it (it had stopped for about a day), so they blame it on an aftermarket amp drawing too much current and killing it. That makes no sense to me (battery starts the truck plenty of times, so it's not near dead, the alternator is working).
I suspect that the salesman cranking it while on fumes sucked some junk up into the fuel filter or something maybe, but that doesn't seem to be it either. Truck runs just fine once it stays on.
It does have an aftermarket marksman security system. I hate that it's not factory. I wonder if something isn't whacko with it and it's shutting the truck off (I'd think it'd prevent it from cranking or starting if it thought it was theft or something. No idea on this though).
I took a short video of the issue and put it on youtube. ~20 second clip from last night.
Any input would be highly appreciated. Dealership is going to look at it again, but given they didn't check anything in the fuel system yet (or even the fuel pressure) doesn't instill a great deal of confidence. I just want to know what to look for on my own before dropping this off again.
Thanks!
