Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and have been digging around for the past few days. I came across and older thread saying that the speed limiter kicks in at 105 mph. I bought my tuck used so I do not know what all has been done to it. But it looks and feels stock to me. I installed a MagnaFlow muffler on it and that's it. I was able to get my truck up to 117 mph before I had to slow down. Does this mean my truck was tuned before. Or possibly had the speed limiter removed. Any help would be appreciated.

Were you reading that off the speedo or a GPS? I'm not sure, but if you have smaller tires than stock it could possibly be reading faster than what you're actually going. Get a speedo app on your smartphone and it will tell you your speed accurately via GPS, or just use a GPS if you have one.

if the speedo on the truck said 117, the limiter has been removed.

I should have stated that I was not on a public road while doing this in the original post. It was on the Speedometer and my tire size is 275/60R20.

That's stock tire size. Where in the hell is a private road that you can get to 117 mph? I've used runways at small airports before, but that wasn't necessarily legal, just safer than public roads. You have to monitor the radio to make sure there's no air traffic before you do something like that. When I did it I was up in Maine and more concerned with hitting a moose than a plane.

Mine '12 has 20's on it and my limiter kicked in at 110. I was on my way back from Savannah GA on I16. It's a fairly straight highway. I opened that beast up and off we went. I was a little upset that it cut out 110.

Do you have any idea how many people get killed on I16 between Savannah and Statesboro driving like that each year? It's insane. That is one stretch of highway you don't want to be speeding on.

This makes me believe the previous owner had a tuner on it.

Who cares? Anything on the road above 80-85 is just stupid.

Oh god... Please stop... Speed limit in parts of the country is 80-85 (which means within the law, . I question anyones driving ability who cannot operate a vehicle at those speeds safely.

And one more thing. Come from a state that is typically 55-65 and go that speed on an 80mph interstate. See how fast you receive a ticket for going the speed that you feel is "safe".

I can burry the needle in my truck but I have a few upgrades. Fastest I've seen reported on here is just north of 145 mph.

Yep, I've had my truck to 145 on the digital speedo. Oh, by the way, I live on an Island with very few people during the right season. 6 mile straight line road. Took about a mile of road or just a tenth more. Ass end started lifting. Tires are only rated for 130, road imperfections. Don't try it unless your willing to die. Intense ride!

not so much as I have seen many a state with an 80 mph limit and as long as you can pull off 45 as a minimum (45 as a minimum right under 80 as the maximum on signage) you will be all right:favorites13:

The old "Viper Truck" did something like 154 mph, top speed. I wonder where that was determined?

You can't ask about theoretical top speed without the goody 2 shoes chiming in and ******* on the parade.

I'd never do it, but I've always been curious how the 5.7 stacks up against the ol V10.

Stacey David/GearZ was the one that set that speed, and I think it was on the Daytona oval, but don't quote me on the track.

The SRT-10 did something like 157.78mph to set the record of fastest speed for a factory produced truck.

It was aero limited, not power. There's much more to top speed than just horsepower.
