See pictures. Brakes have not given any indication of failing mechanically. I should change these though, right? (brake hard line junction toward rear on driver side) If so, I was thinking I'd purchase the new rear portion. (flex hose and hard line) Which would take care of the rear portion (the rotted piece on the left side). And then Id cut the line on the right side that goes toward the front of car (the one with the bend in it in the photos) and install a new brake line piece and fitting with a union to the line that is there. (3/16 brake line, double flares, with a basic flaring tool set, while underneath the car) Then bleed the brakes

Does this make sense?

Would you guys do it differently?

Not do anything about it?

Get all new lines?

I appreciate any insight or tips or things to think about that I am missing.

Thanks

Where is the ROT, i only see RUST

I would be spraying that area down & maybe use a wire brush on it, after a couple of times spraying it

You should clean off the whole Underbody & spray it with Fluid Film or something
or your feet will not have any place to put them, except on the trucks frame

Slippery slope my friend. As soon as you touch that, you're opening a whole can of bad news. I say leave it alone for now, there's no remediating that. Wait till something must be touched and be ready for a bill.

Next time you get a new(er) vehicle get it treated for corrosion with some kind of oil/lanolin based product, at least every other year.

Ha, just necroying the thread to say, I encountered the same thing just now in 2025. I now need to cut the line and do exactly what you described. Being in Canada in a region where they salt roads quite a bit, my "nut" hex surfaces literally have rusted away to nothing. My fitting is now leaking, and with a round fastener. Ordering parts and will do it over the weekend.

Actually I would just spray them down with Blaster then use a tooth wire brush and brush them off. Then spray with Fluid Film or similar. No need to replace anything yet.
