Well I finally got the deal I wanted so I pulled the trigger & had them order my truck! :party36: Last I read on here it would be about 90 days to get it. I don't mind the wait, just as long as they do a good job on it.
This is gonna **** some people off & might sound un-American but I am actually glad these get built in Mexico. While waiting at the dealership I had plenty of time to inspect all of the vehicle in the show room. Seen a Chrysler 200 that was built in Michigan somewhere. Has some new really cool changes however the paint job sucked. Lots of orange peel. I can handle some but this just had way too much texture to it. If that wasn't bad enough there was dirt in the paint as well! What did they shoot it in the parking lot?!? Moved over to the to a Mini Van build it Canada. The outside look very well put together with very little orange peel. Moved on to a 4D Jeep which was built in Toledo Ohio. Paint didn't have any dirt in it but did have a well amount of orange peel. Worst part was the body panels were put together VERY poorly! All of the panel seams were WAY off. You could stick your thumb into the seam between the hood & cowl on the drivers side. Go over to the passengers side & I can't even get my pinky to fit in it. Went to the front of thee vehicle to see how bad it look from the front & I was embarest for them having that in their showroom. :shakehead: It looked sooo crooked from the front that I am really surprised that quality didn't catch that before it went out of the factory.
Getting nervous... just spent the most money I ever have for a vehicle & just want it tp be put together well & look great!

You're not alone. Many complaints about the paint quality of trucks built in the US. I read a pretty detailed review of the issue somewhere which stated they can't afford to shut down the line long enough to update the paint systems. Hopefully they get a new plant online sometime soon.

Regardless, the paint on my truck was pretty much flawless so doubt you'll have any issues. Some people report panel alignment issues but I couldn't find anything work complaining about. If you go on the other big Ram forum under the 2016 folder, SPP has a thread tracking everyone's build. Made the wait more entertaining except realizing how frustrating the rail transit schedule can be:) Good luck!

Congrats PowerWagon, a friend of mines had that paint problem but his was a 1500, he ran into that problem twice but the second one was better but not prefect.

There have been the complaints regarding the paint on the HD's as well. It'***** or miss across the board.

This is my point as un-patriotic as it may sound... the HD truck's paint is good because they are made in Mexico. Out of all the vehicles in the showroom all of the ones made outside of the US were good & all that were made here in the states were not.
This might not be the case with this situation but I am a plant manager & it is VERY hard to find someone that takes pride in their work & has a good work ethic. Thirty plus years ago it almost seemed reversed, stuff coming out of Japan was P.O.S. & USA Vehicles (the top 3) were built much better.
Anywho enough of my rant. I just hope mine is built with pride!
Already off to a bad start, the guy who ordered my vehicle left off a couple of options. Truck was already in "D" status when I caught it 24hrs. later. From what I have read here "D" is just the very beginning so these missed options should still be able to be added.
Viking what is the SPP for tracking? I was under the impression I had to go through my salesman for that. Would be nice to be able to track it myself.

SPP is a user on one of the other Ram forums. He works for Dodge and provides daily updates on the various truck build status. Trust me, he's waaay more accurate than anything your salesman is likely to provide. You just provide him with the initial order info and he takes it from there. He can also help if you need to cancel or revise an order.

PM me if you still can't find it and I'll give you all the details. FYI, I just saw that he's out on vacation until Monday but if you post a response on the "2016 Status Updates" thread with your info it should get added to the list once he's back online.

I've had a 2016 outdoorsman for 2 months now. I'm loving it and I don't have any paint issues. What color did you go with?

I really like that color although it is harder to keep clean.

When I ordered my 3500, the dealer quoted 7 to 9 weeks, got it in 7 weeks and a few days. Michigan delivery point.

The Saltillo plant in more modern having been opened in 1995 compared to Warren (RAM CC 1500) opened in 1949. I have both a Warren built and a Saltillo built RAM. I'm one of the lucky ones, no paint issues and fit is as perfect as one would expect on a production vehicle.

The 200 you mentioned is built in Sterling Heights, Michigan in a plant first opened in 1953.

I own a 2016 2500 6.4 outdoorsman. Absolutely love it! GF owns a 2014 1500 5.7 Bighorn. Great truck as well. Only thing I wish my outdoorsman had was the 8 speed!

We ordered a '15, 2500 Outdoorsman and love it. Great experience. I'm sure if you put some thought into options the truck will last you years.

Our truck was made in Mexico, and we had bad paint. it was chipping straight through to bare metal. Took it back to the dealer and they could only fix one spot under warranty. Wasn't worth the time the truck would be in the shop for one SINGLE chip. The truck has been detailed and now we are just living with them. They are waxed and I will look into cleaning it up better in the spring.

Good luck with the truck. We love having a custom order. Everything we need and we will have it for years. Keep us all updated

Don't feel bad, back when I first got my old '05 CTD I was making a post on TDR and called the trim level Lariat instead of Laramie. Man, I took an ass-whooping!:roflsquared:
