We have two 2016 5500 trucks we use for snow plowing. we have found that when we have a load on that the rear brakes do not work. The weight is all pushing toward the front brakes. Not good when you are plowing snow on a grade.

is this just an adjustment issue or is it a known problem?

Thank you

Uh oh, had this with a '94 3500, never did figure it out.

I hope this is not an issue with our '16 5500. Haven't had a plow on it yet, just weight.

just got it back from the mechanic at the dealer. had to replace caliper and piston froze. slide pin froze. 2016??. Asked him about the truck not stopping and not using rear brakes. he said he cant adjust without getting into lawsuit (ridiculous) ...another one of my favorites..."known problem". He also said don't put a heavy load on it. not an option. this is what we bought them for. if I don't get satisfaction from Dodge im going to take them both back to Equipment Dealer I bought them from.....and buy a chevy.

You realize that Chevy probably has the same rear axle & brakes right?

How do you know the rear brakes are not working? Have you taken a Temperature reading of the brakes after repeated stopping. I know snow plowing w my friends Ford F450 with weight in the back, they are horrible w braking as well, they just keep on going. With the plow off, they stop just fine w a dump body full of soil. Might have something to do w the extra weight of the plow on top of the load transfer all the weight forward and the rear brakes not grabbing

"He also said don't put a heavy load on it." What the hell are you supposed to use it for then... an Uber vehicle?!? :disgust:

Agreed, that is an utterly ******** thing to say to the owner of a 5500 series truck

Ask him to define "heavy".

Then ask him what the GVWR and GCVWR is.

Some of these mekanicks and service advisers are no more than trained monkeys.

As bad as the idiot customer service reps for Comcast\Verizon\Sprint\AT&T, etc. First thing they want you to do is reset the modem. I already did that like 600 times before calling.

It would be the GAWR. The GCWR applies for towing, truck plus trailer.

I know, but telling you to not load it heavy...axles or overall weight is just stupid.

We put a 10' Boss DXT on ours. A Vbox spreader should be going on in a week or so. 3-4 tons of salt, it's going to be heavy. We'll see how the brakes work.
