I purchased a new 82215040AB controller on ebay ($190) and installed it myself on my 2017. The instructions are pretty accurate and helpful. A couple of tips:
1). Substitute the self tapping screws for 10-24 machine screw w/lock washers, drill out the metal bracket screw holes with a 1/4" bit, insert the screws from back side of the chassis framework, and slide the new bracket onto the screws. I tightened with an impact gun so getting the nut tight without having to hold the screw with a tool was not an issue. I fumbled around for 30 minutes trying to get to the hex head on the self tapping screw before going this route and I had the bracket on in 5 minutes. 2). You will want to use a plastic pry tool so as to not mar up the plastic trim. Take your time as you're pulling and prying on the dash trim. There were 8 on the perimeter of the trim and 4 more surrounding the uconnect screen (don't pry against the screen face). When the clips release, they make a sound like you've cracked a piece of plastic somewhere . I also removed the console cover, which use the same clips and comes off easily, because I felt like it was holding the dash trim in. 3). The controller synced up without having to take to the dealer for a flash. Sliding the lever all of the way to the left caused the tires to lock up :D.
Plan for a 90 minute job with a difficulty of 2 out of 5. Good Luck.
