I've talked to several different dealers about custom ordering a 2018 1500, with conflicting answers as to if 2018's are still able to be ordered. Some have said no, some have said "until May". Are some of these dealers just trying to push me into a vehicle on the lot, or can you really not custom order a 2018 anymore?

The Internet hasn't been a great help in this regard either (at least looking at search results). Any insight into when the cutoff date is (or was) would be appreciated!

As you said you are getting conflicting stories, could be that some dealers no longer want to order 2018s, some want to get rid of their current stock, and some saying it is possible, and it might be none of those. However, if the one dealer said you could until May, why didnt you order it from them? I do not know the concrete answer, but it seems one at least gave you the option to order it. Best of luck.

I do know that like with the new Jeep, they will continue selling the older model side by side for a while yet. Not sure if you can special order however and apparently dealers aren't sure either. They may have such a large amount of 2018's on the factory lots that those are what dealers will be getting.

I'm pretty sure u can order till about June. The assembly plant retools for 2 weeks in July for model year changes. They will always try to sell u what's on the lot, always. They will lie through their teeth to get u to buy what they have in stock.
