Fortunately this was a dead end road turn-around and idle speed. I searched but did not find this failure.

You guys may want to inspect yours.

This is passenger side. IMG_2776.JPG

Have never seen anyone break that before on a 2500/3500, this is a first. Is the truck lifted or running big tires?

Must have been a bad casting

No way that would happen even from big tires or a lift.

that would be my guess as well. while the factory parts are quit good for what they are, at the end of the day theyre still budget cast parts with limitations and not immune to internal defects

21,000 miles, no lift, one size up on Michelin's on stock Tradesman steel wheels 18". I seriously hope steering parts are forged and not cast. Dealer said he had one in stock so we'll see.

they may be forged as ive never looked very close but it makes no difference to regards of a defect somewhere in the manufacturing process. it happens. ive seen hundreds of defective railroad track that often times results in a break just like your tierod end. they use specialized and expensive vehicles to basically xray the track to find defects before a break happens but sometimes they dont catch it in time. xraying car parts wouldnt be feasable

Give us an update when it's done. I'd hope the dealer would get it covered it under warranty.

Do you ever turn at full lock...? I'll usually find full lock gently then back off it just a hair when I'm trying to turn tightly. Some people will ride the stoppers hard, sometimes you can hear their power steering pumps crying in agony.

Riding full lock hard could have created stress over time, although more likely to wear out the tie rod end, not break it.

You ever hop a curb or hit a rock with the left tire while at full left lock? Could be the other wheel transferred way too much impact force through the tie rod from the other side and it just so happens the right end of the rod gave up first. This could have cracked it, then down the line you hit the stopper in a tight turn and the end result was...

Nope, none of the above. Street driven, boat/truck camper load, no mods other than rear air bags. Dealer completed the repair under warranty Monday after the Friday this happened.

Yeah that doesn't look like just a failure. Something like that usually happens from abuse whether intentional or not. :driver:
