Currently have a 2020 ram 2500 tradesman with the 5 inch radio. I found a 2019 1500 with the 8.4 inch touch screen and I’m curious if the two are compatible. I know infotainment sells a kit but $2600 is quite expensive. Thanks for any help in advance!

Yes it should possible to upgrade, you may need to upgrade the HVAC controls but that's shouldn't be to bead. Let's see if @Mpgrimm2 chimes in, he's a forum vendor and can supply any needed wiring harnesses.

Just curious does he sell the kit for the usb ports to make the CarPlay work? I want to do it right without spending thousands. Thank you for the quick response @crash68

Appreciate the mention but I don't offer any 5th Gen radio upgrades.

Ended up finding a better deal on a 2020 8.4 with the bezel included today and ordered it. Will I be able to plug in the factory usb/aux ports and use a cable for CarPlay?

I sort of miss my 2020 2500 Bighorn with the 12 inch screen and all the "connected services". My current 3500 has the 8.4 which I am okay with, but the "connected services" were deleted in production.:rolleyes:

@Roper46 don’t mind my ignorance but what is “connected services”? I’m upgrading from the 5 inch sad excuse for a radio to the 8.4

@Johnt999 Without connected services I am unable to receive over the air updates to the infotainment system. I still lose all my radio presets every couple weeks. Dealer was going to update it when it was in for a recall but they said the guy that does it was really backed up. Also, with my 2020 I was able to use the app for remote lock, start and navigation. None of the remote services with the app work. I did a pm (private message) with RamCare w my VIN to see if connected services could be added. Was told no way to add it.

But after all of this I am satisfied with my 3500, mechanically it is sound. I purchased it for towing my fifth wheel and I love the extra payload and the air suspension. And I am still very impressed with the Cummins, on my 3500 and the 2500.
