Wife's grandmother passed away over mother's day so on Wednesday - Friday we had to make a long trip from south central NC to, Virginia Beach, to Ocean City Maryland, to Baltimore then over to Frederick, MD and then down the west side of Virginia back home. ~1100 miles. The truck netted about 19.5 mpg so it was very relaxing knowing I had over 600 mile range with the 33 gallon tank.

But truthfully I only saw a hand full of closed stations. I would say 95% had fuel. And they were mostly in very populated areas.

Sorry for your loss. I'm inland about 150ish miles from where you went up and we have about 60% stations that don't have gas. I'm in the triangle area of central NC.

Most of the "shortage" was due to the bread, eggs and toilet paper crowd panic buying. They are driven by the mainstream media's desire for ad clicks on their website. Sad ....

The start of COVID was rough. I was doing a very clean mostly vegan diet for health reasons, and any source of protein such as beans or chickpeas were not available. It was ridiculous trying to find food. I saw the lines for gas... Unreal.

I remember when Jimmy Carter decided we had an oil shortage and a panic ensued. most of my friends in the oil business at the time told me they werent even pumping at the full allowance. luckily my office is only 4 miles and I can work at home so with 33 gal tank I dont need to gas up very often..I feel sorry for the folks that really needed some gas and were squeezed out by the toilet paper hoarders.

The oil shortages are really only regional when they happen and in areas running close to pipeline capacity on a normal day is where they happen most. In those areas when a line goes down for any reason unplanned it takes time to create a workaround, which is usually costlier adding to the price surge on top of the supply/demand thing and since everything is at capacity already it creates a shortage in that area. With a little planning ahead and a couple extra fuel cans there's nothing to worry about on a long trip as far as finding fuel. Just a pain if you're a daily commuter in the problem region.

The pipeline moves the equivalent of over 9000 tanker trucks per day. With all the opposition to pipelines wouldn't we prefer pipelines? I don't understand the lack of common sense among the anti pipeline crowd.

sometimes amount of common sense is a function of party in power.
