I traded my 2500 in for another 1500, long story...

I've been searching high and low for any info on the reverse assist, not the trailer steering. If I am backing up and the truck thinks I'm going to fast, it slams on the brakes. It about gives me whiplash and makes the worst sound ever. I noticed today while backing up my driveway with a little incline, I was going slower than normal trying to find the right speed so it wouldn't lock up and the damn things throws on the brakes. I wasn't going fast, barely even had my foot on the accelerator. Has anyone else experienced this, if so, how do I turn it off?

It’s your park assist (the little sensors in your bumpers) I only turn mine on when in tight parking spaces.

Two switches, one for front and one for rear. Switches are next to the Tow/Haul and Traction Control switches. Lights on means they are disabled. Light off means they are active.

Gotta turn it off in the Uconnect settings. It’s braking before you hit the shadow it sensed. Too sensitive.

The switches just turn off the sound. Not the auto brake when backing so you don’t hit your bumper on something.

the switches turn off the auto breaking on mine. I had to turn mine switch off. My driveway is a pretty steep decline and before I’d get the the edge of the driveway the truck sensors would pick up the street would slam on the breaks.

turn switch off and back right out no without whiplash or neighbors staring at me wondering what the hell I was doing lol

Auto Braking and Park Assist are two different systems, and have different methods for disabling them. You can turn off the Auto Braking in uconnect, while the switches control the Park Assist sensors. You can disable Auto Brake and keep Park Assist active, but I've never tried disabling Park Assist and keeping Auto Brake active. I've never even activated the Auto Brake feature because I haven't heard any good things about it to be honest. Even the sales rep who sold me the truck advised against using it LOL.

I see what you mean. I’ll have to go through my Uconnect settings and change it leave the alert on but leave breaking off. I like the alert just not getting whiplash backing out the driveway or hooking my trailer up.

I got the surprise braking once. Toggled the rear park assist off via the dash switch. Never had it happen again. I have not looked at the settings in uconnect so I can’t speak to how it’s set in there. Didn’t realize I should need to look there. My switch is off and it stopped slamming the brakes so I’m fat and happy now.

I’m in a 19 Lonestar w/8.4 level 2. You’re in a 20 Laramie w/?? system, OP is in a 21?. Difference in year models, trim levels and infotainment systems. Is there a difference in how they work?

I had mine kept slamming on the brakes while backing up in a parking lot. It was sensing a speed bump. Turned it off on the dash. I haven't looked in the Uconnect to see that option. Dash button is the quickest for me.

My 2021’s parksense failed the day after taking it home, so I haven’t got the whiplash yet. But the Laramie I tested at the dealership did it in the customer parking lot.

Yep. Dash switch stopped mine from giving whiplash as well. I can relate to the comment about the neighbors....ughh.

It's a long story in my mind...lol I had a 2014 1500, traded it in on a 2500 mega cab. I loved everything about the 2500, just never drove it. So, I started looking at 1500s again.

Thanks for the responses! I turned off the parkassist in the uconnect settings. Tested it coming up my driveway, making sure no one was around. Alas, no whiplash!

Went to back into my upward-slanted driveway a couple of weeks after getting my 2021 1500 and experienced the same as people here. Truck beeped and auto-braked on me, made a horrible sound like something was grinding. I said my “wtf” out loud, pulled forward and tried backing again, same thing. Turned off my front and rear sensors with the buttons on the dash and then it let me back in normally.

Just glad I had the state of mind to quickly have a guess at what the problem was.
