Normal for the 6.4. Dealer told me it is due to increased exhaust pressure on the 6.4. Dealer said they install a cat back system with a flow master to get rid of the noise. I plan on living with it as long as it is in warranty. Don’t won’t to give any ammo for warranty denials.

As long as it’s past emission items IE the cat it won’t void any warranty’s I am a huge fan of exhaust and did my research. Now I have a borla XR-1 muffler on my 2500 and it definitely does not change the engine noise if your standing by the engine bay sounds the same, at the back it drowns out everything. I feel like header may change it but that would definitely give them ammo to void a warranty.

My 2019 PW got much quieter at about 8k miles. First oil change at 1200. Then every 4K since. 14k mi now and no problems. Can still hear a faint tick on cold morning start ups but I’m over it. Ditch the resonator and you won’t hear it at all...

Have ‘19 PW, bought it new...sounded just like that until the dealer had to replace the EGR VALVE (@ 6-7k mile mark). Something Ram is doing to appease the EPA...but they sell it to us the customer as a fuel efficiency component. Once the EGR VALVE was replaced the ticking/high-pitched sound went away and the truck drives like it is supposed to!!!

How did I know to take the truck in for service? Check Engine light would come and go without consistency, gas mileage was down 2-3mpg.

Also, do yourself a favor and add a Cold Air Intake and good Cat-Back Exhaust...$$$ well spent, truck sounds awesome!!!

Yep, normal. Mine sounded like that. Made me miss my 5.9 Magnum at times far as sound goes. Aside from that no regrets for the trade.

I looked at Borla's site -- and they only list products for 2014-2018 Ram 2500s. Do you have this on your 2019?

no I just got a muffler and a little bit of pipe and welded it together myself. Much cheaper that way plus I got to keep the stock resonator.

100 percent normal. Mine have all sounded like that. If u have a loud tick in colder weather it could be a manifold leak until motor warms up and expands.

The 6.4 is kinda noisy. Yours sounds normal to me. A catback system made my engine noise a little less, and sounds great. i bought the MBRP. It was an easy install and I like the big cool 5 inch SS tip.

Bought this truck used on Saturday. Not having owned a 6.4 before I have no idea what "normal" sounds like. That being said, on a cold start my truck sounds awfully ticky and squeaky. And no matter how warmed up it is there's always this sound of an exhaust leak.

Took a vid, give it a listen.

Mine does that too, not sure what it is....

Glad I found post, mine sounds the same. I thought maybe the 6.4's suffer from cracked header bolts like the 5.7s do. This is my first 2500, just still learning.

Thinking about putting on an intake and exhaust for ***** and giggles. Want to live'n up the noise of this engine a bit.

Dealer suggested that I get an aftermarket exhaust. I put a FM super 40, 30" section of pipe, kept the resonator, hardly any drone. 78K, still sounds like yours, at startup, and drives me crazy at drive troughs. 0w40 RL, & RP filter.

It's normal. Like a bear coming out of hibernation every time I fired our 6.4L up.

This is my first 6.4 and I have it to. Drives me crazy, even did my first oil change at 1000 miles cause it was concerning. Didn't help haha. I'm looking at aftermarket exhaust but honestly I may sell it. The steering is way to light with zero feed back.

You will need to go back to a half ton or car with rack and pinion steering if you want feedback.

If you want to hear weird sounds, try starting it in -35 when you’ve forgotten to plug in the block heater…..

I have a 2020 6.4 stock exhaust etc. my buddy has a new duramax and the other day we were parked side by side in the cold for a couple of hours. We both used our remote starts and mine sounded like the diesel. You could not even hear his next to mine. embarrassing really.
