Hey gents,

Been having a little issue with my truck lately. First start of the day the truck stumbles and barely starts.

33,400 miles, no CEL/DTCs stored. Truck runs great after it's started and it will restart after work no issue. Just that first cold start of the day is odd.

Thinking the battery is getting tired. It doesn't have the OEM battery, it has one size too small (physically too small) not sure on the rating. Didn't notice when I bought it from a dealer last year. But it's only a year old.

What size is it supposed to have? What's the best AGM battery out there these days? I am going to put a few amps in this truck next year so might as well go with the biggest/best to prepare for that.

I think they still have the removable spacer in the bottom of the battery tray Garrett, and with it out,you should be able to get the bigger H8 in it,stock it should of had the H7 ,at least that's what the 4th Gens had,but i'm pretty sure the 5th Gens are the same.
Even the cars have a spacer in the battery tray that with a bit of modding allow you to run the bigger H8,Ma Mopar will sell you a factory spacer that allows the bigger battery, but last time i checked they wanted about 50 bucks for it,so i mod them,a few minutes with a hacksaw makes the same basic spacer as Ma Mopars overpriced H8 battery spacer. The police Chargers are the ones that usually have the bigger battery installed in them

I tried to capture it in that second pic, the battery is a couple inches too short to fill the tray. Wish I would have noticed it when I bought the truck, I would have tried to get them to swap it.

Even being a smaller size I am surprised it might be going bad after just a year. Unless it's way under rated or something.

Is 700cca about right for our trucks?

Where you're at,about a year isn't out of the norm for a battery, lol. 700 cca would be the mininium you'd want.If you get a chance look the bottom of the battery tray over and see if it has a removable block/spacer, if it does, that'd open up a lot more options in the bigger H8 line of batteries.

Snapped another pic, If I can remove that piece It will open up a lot of room. Will have to pull the battery and look closer.

New battery it is then. Hopefully that fixes my cold starting issue.

Thank you Rick!
