2nd gen 12 valve first truck?

Hey guys I’m new here and turning 15 soon. I’m looking to get my first truck and am thinking about a 12 valve. I have herd they are reliable and get good mileage because they are a 6 cilinder diesel. I know mentinence can be more but fuel is cheeper where I live so I think owning a diesel vs a gasser would average out. I am going to be pulling a trailer on occasion for fourwheelers. And in Utah we get snow every year and 4wd is a need here. And I can plug the truck in but would it start on school days? I have like a 9k. Budget but how may miles it too many? I love these trucks because of the movie twister and like the 12valve so would a 2nd gen be a good first truck?

I used to live where it got cold in the winter. I had many diesels and even with it plugged it it would not start most days

Ya that’s one of my issues because if it’s going to be my daily it needs to be able to get me to school in the winter.
