35's and 6" lift on 2012 4.7

So I am looking to throw some 35s on with a 6 inch lift. I have a 2012 4.7 1500 geared at a 3.55 is this going to cause me to need to change my gearing? I'm not worried about takeoff speed. Just want to make sure I am not going to cause myself premature failure somewhere.

Regearing is more so to get the loss powerback, there would be a little more strain on your tranny but if you don't care about the performance, just save the money.

What's re-gearing cost? Sorry rebuilding drivetrains isn't something I am well versed in, not that I couldn't do it, more of never tried and won't on my truck haha.

Depends on what you want to do with the truck. I ran a 6" lift with 35's and 3.55 gears with my old 2012 1500 4.7L. It was definitely slower off the line than stock but that's to be expected. Still a fully useable truck though.

A gear swap in a 2012 1500 is going to run you around $2500-3000 depending on the shops in your area. You'll need a front diff from a 2011 truck in order to do the swap as well as gears can't be changed in a 2012+ front diff.

I had a shop do my 2011 4x4 1500 and it was roughly $3,700 for 4.56 gears. It was hard to find a shop in my area cause nobody had experiences installing gears

i have a 2011 regular cab 1500. I have a 6 inch lift and i'm running 37's with 3.55 gears. I don't plan on changing them, I've lost some power and truck shifts more, that's about it. Only real complaint I have is that I have a hell of a vibration at low speeds even when I had stock rims and 35's on with this lift. Rough Country has been no help at all either.

I've heard numerous people tell me to do the gear swap because it'll save your tranny but I'm still hesitant on it because it costs so much. I don't have a problem with my, yes it uses a lot more fuel, yes it doesn't hardly go into eco, but as far as I can tell its fine.

I've been to two shops and they say 22oo installed. Is it possible to do it yourself? I've heard the gears or something has to be drilled by a machine shop or something?

And Brandon, what's this about swapping the front diff? No shop has told me I had to do this. They said it was just a simple swap.

The fuel economy you end up getting all depends on where you're doing most of your driving. If you're on the highway a lot changing gears isn't going to get you better mileage, it will likely be worse. However in the city it will do slightly better with all the stop go traffic. All in all in generally ends up being a wash and you'll be getting about the same that you are now.

Unless you've changed gears on these types of differentials before I would highly recommend getting a shop to do it. It can be done with some guess and check methods for the average backyard mechanic that knows what they're doing. It's a pain in the butt but you'll get it right eventually (provided you have a few of the key tools needed). But a shop does it with precision tools the first time. Not to mention they have the experience with setting up bearing preloads, backlash, etc. Gears installs are not something you want to screw up. If it's not done right the gears are often shot and will need to be replaced before they can be setup right again.

On 2012 and up trucks the front ring gear is welded to the carrier so it cannot be changed. You need a front diff from a 2011 to actually be able to change the gears. This will up the price above $2200 for sure.
Depending on the size of gears you want to put in, machine work on the differential housings may also be required (for 4.56 gears for example).

I had a 2013 4.7 with 3.55's. I had a 2.5" front level and 2" rear spacer with 35" tires and it was a dog, fuel mileage was terrible. I later did the RCX 6" and mileage didn't decrease too much more but it was pretty bad, I wouldn't do it again.
