Well, going to be needing a new set of tires later this year. As I plan on a 3 month Alaska trip next summer, I am planning on carrying two spares for both trailer and Ram. I just purchased an 18x8 OEM polished aluminum rim for one of the spares. What are your thoughts on using a 5 tire rotation. It can be done using a front to back pattern or using the cross pattern which is recommended by Ram. Anyone ever used the 5 tire rotation and had the vehicle long enough to see the results?

I don't think it would be worth it money wise. If the tires last 60,000 miles and you rotate them every 6,000 miles you would get and extra 12,000 miles out of the set. Then you would have to buy 5 tires instead of 4 so that would eat up any savings from rotating 5 tires. Plus rotating 5 would be more work every time. Not that big of a deal if you do it yourself but a shop might charge more and you would have to make sure they were always rotated the same way. The advantage to it would be your spare would always be the same as your regular tires and the tread depth would also be about the same. That would be a big plus if you put the spare on a drive axle, especially if you have limited slip and have to run the spare for some distance.

Good points. Having limited slip as well as towing heavy, not to mention if we were to have a tire failure in Alaska. Then may be forced to run for an extended distance before the tire can be replaced. Probably will do most of the rotations myself and also mark the rims somewhere that I can confirm that the were rotated correctly if having a shop do it. Only other thing I can think of is having to purchase a pressure sensor for the wheel. Suspect that it will quickly re learn the new sensor every time?? Never thought of it till now, but wonder what the reaction will be to having 5 sensors all with in reading distance??? I will have the 5th tire mounted to the moose catcher in front of the grill. lol Could be interesting or will have to run without one and ignore the light. Nothing can be simple. lol

I have 5 sensors all the time on my truck. With 2 spares you're talking about having 6 sensors.
DRW 3500's have 7 sensors all the time, I'm not sure it would be an issue at all.

I didn't even think of the sensor. I don't know how that would work. Even after rotating tires the computer can tell where the wheel is located. Not sure if there is just a sensor by each wheel that picks up the reading from the wheel or what. Now I am curious. Hopefully someone can answer that.

Well now that you asked I don't actually know if my spare has one or not. I've got a full size spare and I assumed it had a sensor. I shouldn't assume...
