5th Gen Mirrors on 4th Gen

Curious, is the blind spot monitoring a feature that is completely inside the mirror itself or does it communicate with the truck as well? I'm looking in to replacing a faulty power fold mirror on my 2015 Laramie and wondered if they would work?

Mirrors, modules and even got to replace your tail lights. Not a cheap project.
