6.4 cam dyno results

Ok so today I went to Dallas to visit a dyno shop. Two weeks ago he tuned a 6.4 cam in a 6sp challenger to a tune of 60hp/36tq. Well I was over excited and know I could get at least 30 or 40 with my mods. Well my final dyno numbers was 292hp and 311tq. So now im puzzled and looking like wtf. He told me that the truck injectors could not flow enough fuel under wot for the cam. It would raise to 13.1 and he would tell me to get out of it plus after 5200 rpm it feel flat on its face. My mods are LT headers, ported tb, vararam, stall and 6.4 cam. I just knew it would get to at lease 350 but that's how it goes. He was getting A/F from the tailpipe so I wonder how accurate it is. I will post a graph after he send it to me. I want to hit the track but the tuner says its not safe to run Wot in fourth gear so no good on a 1/4 pass. Man if anybody has a clue to why so low please let me know. Oh and question does our funky intake hurt top end. I wonder if changing to the car intake would help I know it doesn't have active intake but man there's a HP bottle neck somewhere should have seen something better.

Im starting to think intake for some reason. I don't think its design works with the cam. But I could be wrong seeing that the stock cam with it and longtubes make 370 so im lost and po'ed to the max.

No but I have track times best being 14.3 @ 95. According to some of the calculators (not proven just a estimation) that's good for 371. So I guess I have to get a wideband and hit the track again.

Wow LT headers got you an estimated 371! I can't believe a cam swap dropped 80HP, very interested in this thread and what you find out.

Saw that you posted "stall" does that mean after market torque converter?

yes I have a 2800 edge tc. An please don't hold me to that 371 number. I just plugged my times into a calculater and got that I have no clue of before hp. I know its some where close I hope. There are some that did dyno with LT and got 370 with a custom tune

I swear I won't hold you to those numbers, I just have a TC edge 2800 that will be sitting on my door step in a few days and have been looking at the LT's here and there along with a cam swap so just curious to see how you ended up with 292.

What configuration is your truck? I just fudged it since the Quad cab/short bed seems to be the most common at 5500 lbs. I have a very accurate calculator and at that weight it shows 308 to the tires. If you get me an accurate weight I can tell you within 10 HP what you're making to the tires.

Mine says 290 to the tires....pretty much exactly what a dyno would tell you.

Exactly. You can add all the air in the world...without fuel it's pointless. The stock injectors can only flow so much then you gotta step up and tune for them. The tailpipe A/F is close enough for tuning.,...if it shows 13.X....you're out of fuel. There's nothing else to discuss.

You must have found a really good one. Ones I tried were dead on for cars(sti, vette, mustang) but not mine :/

We've been using it on my racing site for about 7 years...tested it 100's of times comparing dyno numbers to 1/4 mile times. It's as accurate as I've found as long as the weight is right. Doesn't matter what kind of car or truck it is.

Its a quad cab I will have to weight it to see what the actual weight is with me in it

That's the problem the factory injectors should flow very well for this cam if it can support a supercharger, turbocharger or a larger cam. Im starting to lean towards the fuel pump and fuel rails. I guess ill just start with the intake and injectors and a new pump. I just didn't think that this cam would require so many changes. But you leave and you learn with this stuff.

Oh ok, so you suspect it could be a different issue causing the lack of fuel. Gotcha. I wish I knew these trucks as well as I know mustangs, I'd help ya out.

Yes on to my knowledge the cars and the trucks have the same injectors. Which makes the case that they should be on par for the two that I know of who picked up so hp. I have been told the truck pump can be weak along with the lines so I was asking to see if someone had ran into this before. I don't want to keep using the blower fund but oh well lol
