6x9 Spacer

Hey all,

I can't find the thread on here, but I thought I read somewhere that folks were using a spacer for the front to help with the shallow mounting depth in the door?

Did I imagine this? If not do you know what the spacer thickness is? I'm guessing it pushes the speaker further out toward the door trim/grill.

I used 1/2inch mdf. Cut out a ring 1inch wide the shape of the stock speaker. Predrilled the mounting holes and bolted in my kenwoods. Forgot to take pics though. Im sure someone will post some. Spacer thickness depends on which speaker you want to install every one has a different mounting depth. Stock ones are 2.75inch

You also do not have a whole lot of space in front -- before something will hit the grill in the door. Some tweeters stick out past the frame quite a ways. I've used MDF painted in bedliner before. If I don't need a lot of thickness, I prefer poly cutting boards.

Ok cool thanks. I haven't taken the door off yet but that was my next concern, just how far I can space them out before they hit the grill.

The focals I found are just too deep I think to work.
