I have a 2014 express qc with the 6 speaker base system that I put a brand new 8.4an in and everything is working expect when I play a song loud (over 25) the head unit will automatically lower the volume at heavy bass hits or so it seems haha. Am I the only one who is having this problem? Any recommendations on how to fix it. Thanks a lot!

Most stock radios attenuate bass when it goes to higher volume, it is the factory's way of protecting the factory speakers.

How do you recommend going about getting rid of that? If I replace the speakers and amp them using the factory hu will it still produce that? Or do I need to use a DSP?

You will need a device that will flatten the EQ coming from the stock HU, there are a few out there that I would recommend that work great without to much hassle. JL audio clean sweep, Audio Control LC2i for bass or the Audio Control LC7 for all of your amps. I personally have used the Audio Control products with good results but you have to follow directions on getting it set pretty closely.

If you are going to invest in upgrades and you have high expectations, I recommend you bypass the factory amp and get a DSP with a remote volume control.

I spent countless hours trying to work downstream of the factory amp with a DSP and never got results that were satisfactory to me until I just bypassed the factory amp.

There are other threads that explain how to do this. Good luck!
