I am trying to determine how much oil to put in my new compressor. The old one blew a gasket on its body and leaked out oil with all the refrigerant so I cannot tell how much oil was there to begin with.

[Note: I do not plan to flush and replace all components as the old compressor is fine and suffered no catastrophic failure. It can be rebuilt for sure. But at 160K miles I figure I'll just go ahead and install a new one with a new accumulator.]

I found one post from 2019 asking about the oil capacity and the single reply posted just quoted the service manual. The total capacity according to the manual is 6 OZ.

I am skeptical of this number because the breakout by component is 5 OZ for all components excluding the compressor and the lines.

Also, in that manual there is an asterisk in the entry for the compressor. The footnote indicates that the new compressor should be filled with the same amount that is drained from the old one. Otherwise, without this footnote, the new compressor should be filled with 1 OZ which does not make sense.

I am guessing the lines account for the missing 1 OZ and the total capacity is 6 OZ plus whatever is drained from the old compressor. Given the old compressor will never drain all of the fluid inside , probably ⅔'s off it say, then the new one should get about 3 OZ to be safe. After all, the new one will not drain 100% either (if supplied filled with oil). Thus, the two will match based on the amount drained from the old one.

But what if the old one is unavailable, or leaked out some unknown amount of fluid as in my case?

Any thoughts on this, please?

Just a newbie here, not sure if this helps your situation or not, I am getting ready to replace the entire system (Everything) under the hood (including removing the dash and the air handler box and changing out all the doors with my BlendDoorUSA Billet Aluminum Set), but anyhow, hope these help:

Most vehicles have this info on a sticker under the hood, that's the total amount of freon and PAG/oil needed shown on the sticker/tag.

It's best to add the PAG directly in the compressor before installing the line that goes down on top of it so the PAG is where it needs to be right from the start.
That also helps prevent the vaccum pump from drawing some of it out while pulling it down before adding freon.

Had to do it that way with my old Altima because it was pulling it out when I drew a vaccum for adding freon. After doing it that way, that kept it from pulling any PAG from the system so it still had the correct amount in as measured and added after the freon itself was added.
Filled it up and it worked fine.

NOTE:
What the manual says about adding PAG is the procedure to follow so refer to that info for reference.
