Hi

Started my truck and the ABS/Brake light is staying on.

Did a bit of research online and checked the break fluid and fuses and they are all good?

Any other common areas to check?

Thanks for the help.

Alex

Do you have a code reader capable of pulling the ABS code...? Would make this much easier.

It could be the sensor in the brake fluid reservoir that is faulty. That is a fairly common issue. It could be a wheel speed sensor that went out. It could be the ABS module that lost communication from a squirrel eating the wires. It could be a lot of things. Without a code, we’ll just be taking shots in the dark.

Hopefully it is something simple.

I don’t have an ABS specific tester but my regular reader says there is a 01257 wrong oil DTC.

What’s the wrong engine oil have to do with an ABS error?

Does your cruise control still work? If not I would agree on speed sensor in front hub or the sensor located on the top of the rear end.

Hi

The cruise does not work.

How many speed sensors are there? One in each front hub?

Some have one on each hub. Mine only had one on the driver side hub.

Just got a call from the mechanic they have been driving around town with a computer hooked up to the truck and all sensors are working fine and no error codes present.

Love these types of issues.

Mine popped up when I was towing and cleared itself when I wasn’t towing. Towed again and light came back on and lost cruise control. Changed front speed sensor and no problems.

Been wrenching for a living since long before ABS came out and I've never seen a system with just one sensor on the front.

Look n rock auto they sell hubs with 4 wheel abs sensor or for left front with sensors on 2 of the wheels. only rear wheel abs has 1 sensor on left front. I’m not a mechanic just a stupid retired cop.

Why would I need to replace the hubs?

Can’t the sensors be replaced separately? Sounds like a much easier job.

Yes sensor can be replace by itself. I had a hub starting to get some play in it so changed the hub also.

Guess I should have googled it first then I wouldn't be getting schooled by a stupid retired cop.Rear wheel antilock never really worked for **** anyway. That's why other manufacturers got rid of it in 90's.

This may sound crazy but listen. I have an 03 Dodge Ram 1500. Had same problem. changed out rear sensor twice. Flushed out rear differential. No fix. I changed out my rear shocks with heavy duty shocks. The ones I took off were 1 original and one aftermarket. My abs/brake light came on intermittently. I figured ok I changed out the back shocks i will change front ones too. Both original shocks. After replacing all four shocks my truck rode level. Therefore my fluids were level. No more abs/brake light. If your shocks are good the fluid in the differential will be level. Just my two cents.
