ABS, Traction Control, and Scan Tool

I have an issue with the ABS and Traction Control lights. I've been throwing sensors at it but still having problems and traction control is actually worse. I've replaced all 4 wheel sensors, the cam sensor, and the brake switch. Only thing I think is left is the crankshaft sensor.

I've read some about what some of the scan tools can do but I'm a little unclear on details. Will they tell me which sensor is causing the problem. And if I can't find the problem can I clear them and ignore them so cruise will work? That's worst case, I'd like to solve the issue..

I'm also interested in being able to change VIN options if that can be done with the consumer tools. I've paid dealers a couple times to add options, factory bluetooth, steering wheel controls, etc.

There are 3 types of scanners 1)OBD 2) ODB+ABS 3) OBD+ABS+SRS. As expected you will need the second one. I had a busted wire from my speed sensor and tried the local "free reads" at the local auto part stores, not a single one knew to use an ABS enabled reader. I wound up buying one and told me exactly what wheel the issue was.

Get Alfa obd, you’ll be able to retrieve all dtcs. That way you’ll actually have a direction to go instead of just guessing and throwing parts at it. ABS light will come on for multiple reasons, not just wheel speed sensors.

It won’t tell you what to replace though, that’s not how it works, it’s still up to you to diagnose. You’ll just have a direction to go.

I got a Foxwell NT520 for $155. I guess there's a new model coming and they're on sale. It actually told me it was the right rear sensor (and/or wiring), which is one of the ones I had replaced. So who knows what my original problem was. Swapped back with one of the originals and cleared it, waiting to see if it comes back. I have driven about 40 miles since swapping so pretty sure I'm good.
