Does anyone know if I can just add the seat side panel from a memory seat? Or do I have to add the entire wiring harness and modules from a Laramie Seat?

I'd be all about this. I hope someone can chime in.

I lean into my truck often and hit the buttons not even realizing it till after a few seconds. I never get it back in to the same spot.

I have been seriously considering adding a bypass switch to the power so I can essentially turn the seat controls themselves on and off so if I bump them the seat won't move.

So I looked up the wiring on the non-memory vs memory seat. It looks like the memory panel has a extra two wire plug that goes to the door module. It would be great if it was just identifying the two pins in the primary harness to wire connect a new harness too.

If your truck is a 13 to 18 or 19 Classic Bighorn the seats are not capable of memory in there stock configuration. They don't have the correct motors or wiring to relay there position to the memory seat module that mounts under the seat which you also don't have. Bighorns usually come with the heated/vented seat wiring even if the truck doesn't come with those options but they don't usually have the memory wiring. If yours doesn't have the wiring you would need to add the four wires needed, two to the CAN system which communicates with your BCM and two to the drivers side door harness which then runs to the driver's door module. You would then need Laramie, Longorn or Limited seats that are memory capable and enable the codes in the BCM with the Alfa tool in order for it to work. This is a popular upgrade and myself and many others have done it but unfortunately it's not as easy as just changing the switch panel.

That’s what I was afraid we would run in too. The easiest think to do would be to find a seat base and wiring to swap out.

Unfortunately the seat recline motor is mounted in the seat back so you will need the complete Laramie seat frame base and back for the memory function to work or at least the Laramie memory seat base with the memory module plus the Laramie seat back memory capable motor and harness that you could possibly install in the Bighorn seat back since the Laramie style seats have the high back buckets and are different that the Bighorn seats.

Now I assuming that my Power Wagon is considered a Big Horn trim since it only has heated seats. So unless I find a good deal on some local Laramie seats, it does not sound like it's worth the upgrade just for the memory function.

Thanks for the information.

Yip it's not available on the Sport which is crazy. You could add it pretty easily but you would need a set of Laramie seats. I didn't pay much for my Laramie seats when I upgraded my Express a few years ago but they have gotten pretty expensive.

looks like heated rear seats was an option on the LH model. also a shame, my kids would appreciate that.
The LH is sweet, but just so not me.

Yes but rear heated seats were only available on the Crew Cab and Mega Cab trucks and only the trucks with a center console. You could not get rear heated seats on the Quad Cab no matter what the trim level was. Adding rear heated seats is also pretty easy. The Laramie and Sport seat shapes are identical but they have different seat covers. I didn't want my seats to say Laramie on them when my truck is an Express so I bought new seat covers from Leatherseats.com and installed them. You can put Sport covers on Laramie seats and they would look identical other than the memory button on the side of the seat.

I'm a brand new Ram owner. 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in Rebel Trim (Rebel Equipment 2). LOVING the truck! Hating that memory seats aren't an option on a $60K+ vehicle! Saw your post that you and others have done this upgrade. Wanted to see if you have a parts list and/or can point me to a good write up on how to do the installation? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

If the 2020 configuration is similar to the 4th gen design, you will need to find a 2020 seat to swap in to your truck. For my 4th generation I had to find a memory seat, which is normally a Laramie or Longhorn seat. Since I wanted to keep my current Power Wagon seat tread pattern, I had to remove my current seat coverings and install it on the new seat frame.

If you search on the Alfa OBD thread or 4th Gen to 5th Gen seat compatibility that will help. Depending on the results of your search you will need either a 5th or 4th gen donor seat. Because the addition will require the wiring harness, all seat motors (memory motors are different than non-memory), the 5th Gen by-pass jumper and the Alfa OBD to program to settings.

I think they may have made changes in the Rebel package from Gen 4 to Gen 5. I've got the Level 2 equipment package, which appears to include the same seats that are in the Laramie, minus the memory function. My seats are leather, 8-way power adjustable, power lumbar, and heated. (no cooling). Wondering if there might be just an extra unused set of wires underneath for the memory function?

Unfortunately the wiring harness and motors on memory vs non-memory are different. The only way to get the memory function is to get a compatible seat that is already memory capable. If you only want to update the driver's seat, you can swap your current seat cover on to the memory seat to match the rest of your truck. Then you will need to activate the settings with the Alfa OBD.

I have the 2016 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel and upgraded my seats the day I bought the truck 2nd hand from the dealer to KatzSkin, and during the upgrade dealership added the heated seats for the rear for me as well. Ran me 2Gs total but has been well worth it and all of our winter trips the kids use them religiously. Just and option.
