Yeah. My daughter has a 2016 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited she bought new. Had a 4" lift and 35's put on it and went to 4.88's. too much gear now. Try driving it on the highway at 70....lol. Engine is screaming. It's an automatic too.

My son was just told by his boss this morning that he will likely be heading to N. Dakota next week (from Pittsburgh) and taking his camper so he pretty much has to buy something Saturday. He is leaning towards a 2018 2500 6.4 with 4.10's with 12,000 miles. I'm probably going to go check it out tonight for any surprises. His dry weight on his camper is about 6500lbs so probably 7500-8000 loaded I'm guessing.

He probably won't get back here until noon Saturday and has to make the deal, sign the papers and drive it off the lot Saturday. Makes it tough to shop around.

1/2 ton 8 speed with 3.92 will pull that all day with some HD springs/shocks/WDH, maybe a bag assist for extra payload.

kidding, but am I?

Yeah. I towed it with my 2013 1500 with 3.55s without much trouble. It was spinning around 4000 RPMs on the hills though out on the highway. And 1/2 ton doesn't have the ground clearance he needs without a lift. He had a brand new company 2018 1500 Z71 and ripped the front valance off after a few weeks and the 2500 Duramaxs keep getting damage to their DEF tanks due to ground clearance. In the end he is further ahead with the 2500. The company pays for fuel anyway so that isn't much of a concern. They have big berms for water retention that they have to drive over. He also got 3 flat tires before he hit 20,000 miles in the Z71 too...lol. They sent him to get 10 ply tires after the 3rd one. No flats since then.

Aside from that, the bags won't increase payload, only help it handle the extra weight. To get the payload he would need he'd need a 2019 and finding 3.92s in a 2019 is like finding a needle in a haystack. I think the payload on a 2018 1500 is around 1300-1400. With ~800lbs tongue weight and all of his equipment he is easily over 1000 lbs without him or any passengers, probably closer to 1200lbs. I think the 2019s are more like 1700lb payload but like I said, 3.92s are rare in those unless you spend $60k for all the upgrades.

He already has a good new WDH. He has a Husky TS style that he got when he bought the camper so that part is taken care of.
