So, I recently traded for a 2003 5.9 common rail after my 2004 got totaled. It always did shift late into 4th at around 3000 RPM but I just lived with it until I had time to mess with it. When I hooked up my scan tool and read the TPS through the engine module, it read 0% at idle and tracks smoothly to 100% at WOT. However, if I read it through the trans module, it reads approximately 9% at idle and only about 73% at WOT. I really never believed the problem was the APPS because it reads correctly and is linear through the ECM, but I went ahead and replaced it at the recommendation of a local shop. Same thing with the new one.
One question I have is, what should my APPS voltage be at WOT? It is obvious to me that somebody has been messing with it at one point because the cover is missing and I wonder if the manual stops are ran too far in. I guess I assumed that whatever the ECM is calibrated for 0-100 is what the PCM would see, but is there a chance the voltage is just too low at the PCM? If so, what should I adjust it to at the APPS?
My current voltage readings at the APPS are .514 - 3.54 volts at 0-100%
