My 2022 RAM 5500 has about 4000 miles. It was built Dec of 2021. I use it 60% of the time to carry a truck camper that weighs about 5000 pounds. Other times it runs with just a flat bed and boxes that weigh about 2500 pounds. I never idle this truck more than 5 minutes, and that is only for cool down from high speed - high load conditions. My truck has a DPF sensor from the factory (unlike some vehicles that shipped without it and the DPF is always at zero). The DPF pressure sensor is almost always at near zero carrying the camper or just the flatbed. The only time I saw it build up back pressure was when I was running the truck as a "bob tail" in the winter i.e. no bed, just frame rails off the dealer lot. After I put a load on it, the DPF pressure has never build up more than 2 -3%.

Recently on a 300 mile highway trip, when I when to look at the DPF while driving on the highway, it stated "Auto regen in progress". There was a noticeable decrease in mpg and lasted for about 20 minutes.

My question is: Does the truck regen even when the DPF is near empty ?. The last time I saw a regen was maybe 2000 miles ago driving unloaded and the DPF was about 30% full so a regen made sense.

Yes, it will do a regen every 24-25 engine hours, regardless of DPF status.

Ive had my truck 4.5 months and 38k miles. and didn't have regen issues till just recently. read on another thread about air filter. first one was stock, then Napa $64 and current is Doc's diesel $31.

I can even run errands in town with out a regen it seems like. (25 miles one way) I drive a lot and going to get a Napa one again to test if it's the air filter or ???

DEF and DPF systems are just stupid. in my opinion.

The 2019 to 2023 need to use this air filter 53034051AB, the Mopar 68517554AA should not be used in 2019-2023 yet some dealers are still installing them, guess they are lazy & didn't read the update about this.

Looking at my receipts I see the dealer installed a 68517554AA at last service. It’s 2019. So I’m wondering how you came by this information. Can you advise? Note, my truck is in the shop now for regeneration issues…
