I have had old battery's freeze that seemed OK if they did not crack. This was before all the computer stuff we have now.
most times, I would put a charger on them once or so during winter on the machinery.
One thing I noticed before I replace my 2014 battery, a few months before I changed it, if the truck sat for a week, it would be real slow starting so I would plug in a maintainer if it was sitting for any length of time. That would keep it at 13V.
when it was on its way out , I hooked up a toaster type of load tester on it , hit the switch and the needle did a nose dive into hell no, and it was game over.
