Recently bought a '19 Longhorn 1500 5.7L and am really liking it. I am going to get into tuning a little bit, nothing radical at all, I've tuned my GM's a little bit in the past (but not with HPTuners). I'd basically like to turn off MDS, adjust timing and throttle, play with AGS and fan settings.... and eventually get into the trans a little bit too, mainly raising the shift points a tad. This thing is in 8th gear by 35 mph and feeling sluggish.

So I'm at the beginning of this 5.7L tuning adventure, and trying to figure out how to proceed. I've been looking at YouTube vids, and searching around for "How To's" and so forth. Can anyone offer a little advice on best place to learn about HPTuner and the 5.7L? I figure there must be a few guys that have gone down this path.

Thanks for any tips or links. ;)

I had AEMs in both the car and truck, and the trucks gauge is going on 10 years old now with no issues.

Awesome, thanks.

I 'assume' I would need a wideband for my truck?
If you were to go ahead and start making changes with HP Tuners and you didnt have a wideband in the truck then you would not really be tuning. That would be more like making blind changes and adjustments to the point where you are no longer tuning because you cannot see what the results of your changes are. If you are serious about learning how to use HP Tuners and do it effectively then a wideband is a MUST. Flying blind is not fun and the "seat of the pants" feel of things and the "butt dyno" do not work very well.

Spend the extra money and get yourself a quality wideband so that you can see your changes and learn what those changes did to the AFR.

Oh, I knew I'd need a wideband for tuning, I was questioning if the truck already had one. I kinda figured it didn't but it never hurts to ask.

Yeah, no worries. The factory oxygen sensors are useless for tuning AFR because they are a narrow band sensor.

Do any of you guys know - will HPTuners allow me to adjust the AGS (Active Grille Shutters) open/close temp settings?

Just reach in and pull the slats out one by one. I left the top and bottom row so that the "framework" is still supported and the truck thinks it's doing something without any error codes, but there is now a giant hole where the air can go through and that + 180 tstat does wonders for keeping the truck cooler than stock.

Do like most "Pro" tuners do, play on someone else truck first. Bonus if they pay you.

Don't know if this interest you, money, space, time. You could buy very cheap truck to play with. That's how I learnt.
Bought a truck with bend frame from action for $2k played with it.

@Wild one posted some very good videos. But those only get you so far.

Their online courses are pretty decent, but they aren't exactly cheap to buy,but probably cheaper then blowing up an engine. Chrysler products are a bit of a unicorn when it comes to tuning,so it doesn't hurt to buy their Chrysler courses
