I've been driving my ram for a few months now and now that it is the winter months, i'm finding the headlights are lacking.
I've seen a lot of options from HID kits, New Headlight Units with Projectors, and then some retro kits.

What is the most cost effect upgrade for the headlights? Do Sylvania replacement bulbs make a difference? Should i go HID kit?
Need some honest feedback on what you've done and what you'd do again, and also what turns out being a waste of time, effort, and money. Not really feeling adventurous enough to do a big retro upgrade that's requires cracking and resealing a unit, but i'm open to other alternatives.

As always, thanks in advance for the help.

Best low beam upgrade I've done on two Rams now is HID.

In the case of my 2007 MegaCan I tried upgrading the incandescent bulbs with Silverstars and PIAA bulbs but it just wasn't good enough. So I found a set of OEM licensed replacement capsules and sent them to JJ at Retroshop to work his magic. I ended up with some Morimoto projectors, satin black buckets and some 6000K HID's.

On my 2014 I have the OEM projector headlights what came equipped with incandescent bulbs. I got a HID kit (bulbs, harness, ballasts) from JJ/Retroshop and installed them. Pretty much plug and play, one heck of a lot easier on this truck than the MegaCan was.

I think JJ referred to my MegaCan as a demon truck that hates HID's but we got it done.

So I totally vote for an HID upgrade. Do you have projector headlights?

HID are great but you'll need to aim your lights down to keep from blinding oncoming traffic. There is a write-up for a H9 bulb conversion, which makes a good size light output difference over the H11 bulb in there now.

I swapped my low H-11 bulbs for H-9 bulbs. Very easy to make them work, very happy with the results.
I also swapped my 9005 highs for 9011 also easy.
The low beam was night and day difference in my opinion.

HIDs are still the best bang for your buck. For your 2014, make sure you get an HID kit with Canbus ballasts. You will have no issues with that setup.

Another vote for Hids in projectors.

Sylvania ZXE's aren't bad for a quick bulb swap....but they're no hid.

I'm just throwing out another option instead of HID's.... OPT7 LED's seem to work pretty good. There are several members on here that like them. Once I get some funds saved up, I'll be adding them to my '14 Big Horn.

Anyone in Virginia running HID lights? Ive heard various reports of them being illegal here or having issues passing a safety inspection. We have various modified equipment laws for things as such.

Man, I wish they'd be a little more strict in Georgia. All these HIDs WITHOUT projectors, LEDs, light strips, etc blinding oncoming traffic. So annoying.
