Looking for a reason behind why I get "wheel hop" when braking. What are the causes for this kind of thing happening.

Worn or uneven rotors will make it do that. If you catch it in time you can have them shaved down to fix the problem. If not you need new rotors

Also make sure you don't have any cupping in the tires or uneven wear

Most likely warped rotors if you aren't feeling any vibrations when normal driving. Not chiseled in stone but that would be my guess.
I don't know how strong the stock rotors are as I had to replace my front rotors after having to dynamite the brakes at 75 mph to avoid Ms. Text and Drive smashing into a guardrail a couple of years back. Pissed me off.

So pull the rotors and see about getting shaved at local autoparts store or might as well get the good stuff?

Myself I would just replace them if finances allowed. But I'm funny about brake components.
However like was posted previously, check your tires for cupping as well.
Also rotors shouldn't warp under normal braking.
Oh I just thought about your calipers. If one is sticking that can cause the shaking too!

Cupping is when You have a really stiff suspension so when driving down the road and you hit bumps your tires Bounce and start to get little chunks taken out of the on the tread

Stock rotors are crap. Once they warp, even getting them turned only fixes it temporarily. The hop comes back. I had the hop, had it turned, hop came back, put new rotors on from Autozone. Haven't had a problem since.
