Center of Gravity seems to me to be the single most important point, clearly totally ignored by the owner. Out of curiosity I had to look it up...the COG on that camper would land roughly a foot behind the center of the rear axle...well in violation of loading instructions by both the camper manufacturer and RAM. To make matters worse, he added several hundred pounds onto the rear...and then run the physics calculations (which I won't do because I can't remember how!) of just going over a speed bump and I am damn impressed that the truck frame lasted as long as it did.

(sorry if this was covered already...)

Several people have posted they thought he had a motorcycle on the back, I think it is just a fat tire ebike on that rack. So I guess you could just weld the frame back together with some re-enforcing plates. But I dont think I would load that camper back up though.

I feel bad for the owner of the dually, I believe the people that sold the camper has some ownership because of his knowledge of the load.
I don't not at all, he never read capacity sticker on the driver side pillar, that was his responsibility to read that and not take anyone opinion, somebody could have been killed on that remote road he was traveling, can't believe he wanted Stalantis to pay for it!!!

1st off that is NOT an RV it is a slide in camper. Second I do NOT know about the 3500s but the 1500s come with a paper in the console in big letters that says this truck is NOT suited for a slide in camper. I may still have mine. If I do I will take a pic and post it.
When I picked up my new 2022 2500 CTD there was no paper on the console saying the truck was not suited for slide in campers, but then I had read many years ago that a short bed trucks were not ideal for full size slide in campers...

When I seen first pick. I thought was motorcycle as it was covered. I was wrong.

He has two E-Bikes on the back. He made comment on one of the post, "they only weigh 100 pounds each"
There is pic posted, showing both bikes on the back.

Owners manual?
My owners manual was in glove box all wrapped up and not on console as stated by jagman_xjs thaty i was replying too, but then I had a PDF copy before my truck was at the dealership... I just looked to be sure and the manual does not say that you Can Not put a slide in camper in the bed, in fact it states to my surprise {" Figure 1 illustrates the dimensions describing the forward and rearward limits of the zone in which the Center of Gravity (CG) of a slide-in camper must be located, to provide satisfactory vehicle handling and to prevent overload of the front and rear axles."} So FCA is saying yes you can put one in the bed so long as weight center of gravity is in the proper location in the bed were in the past they would say some thing along the line of not recommend or not suited for slide in campers...

I gotta ask, if not this 3500....then what truck would this work with?!?! 5500???? Peterbilt??
A Ram 4500 would get you to 9550 lb. payload max, but I think they are only single cab and not available with a box. I may be wrong, because I see what appears to be a 4500 or 5500 in a picture with a crew cab and some sort of box, but I couldn't find a configuration like that on the Ram site.

I'm sure if I'm incorrect someone will chime in.

Dusty

A 3500 would still have enough payload. It would just have to be the bare bones regular cab long box hemi with 2 wheel drive like the article says that has 7680lbs payload.

When I purchased my new 06 4Dr 2500 CTD I was told it was not suited for slide in campers or fifth wheel TT...

CG was this guys problem. I'd like to see the CG of that slip in unit as pictured with the electric bikes hanging off the back.

I think you're correct. But based on other comments it sounds like the dry weight of the camper alone was pretty close to the payload limit. A full tank of fresh water and what else they had loaded only made the situation worse.

It was pretty close to the limit of a gas engine eight foot bed regular cab two wheel drive. Not meant for what he had.

It's obvious it is a load distribution issue. This could be considered "tongue weight" overload really. If someone weighed the the actual overhang of his loaded unit I'd bet he's over the recommended max tongue weight that is put on the rear of the truck. CG is way off from where it should be.
