Hi, hope I'm not duplicating other posts, but I could not find much info by search.

I plan to install some flushmount BullRing brand tie down anchors in my stake pockets. Because I have a bed cover I need flushmounts, and our roads get salted, so salt resistance is a must. I would prefer the Gunmetal finish (5066 versus polished 4066) so the tie downs would blend into the black of the bed rail caps, but in addition to higher cost, I worry the finish will not hold up to sun, rain, and salt.

Does anyone have experience with these? The polished stainless model is the more certain bet. If I went that route and didn't like it, I could PlastiDip them, and I could re-coat it if it wears off.

Please share experiences with these or other brands of flushmount stake pocket tie downs.

Thanks !

My guess is the plastidip would come off every time you used them as the downs.

The gunmetal finish is black oxide. Or something along those lines. I've only had mine for a couple of months so can't speak to the longevity but no more than its used it doesn't look like it will wear.

Thanks for replies. I think you're right about the PlastiDip - just a straw in the wind idea. I am leaning toward just going for the black oxide and running the experiment to see how it does.

If anyone else has experience, please share.

I've had the flush fitting gunmetal bull rings on my truck for over a year. It's not black oxide, it's more like a tinted or darkened chrome. I haven't had any problems at all with the finish flaking off or anything like that. They do sit under my tonneau cover so they're pretty well protected from UV. I have loved having them. They're there when I need them and totally out of the way when I don't.

I don't what they are colored with. I thought they were blackened stainless ,,,but it seems durable. I checked it the first couple of times I put a bungy through one and it wasn't scratching it.

You shouldn't have too much issue with salt up on top of the box rail, other than the odd slush splash from a passing transport. But if your really worried, give them a good coat of wax before winter, or a good spray with fluid film and wipe off the excess.

Thanks ! I am making up my Christmas wish list for my wife, daughters, and son-in-law - and these are going on it. The gunmetal ones.

The web site says they are stainless steel. I would think if the quality of the SS is decent then rust should not be an issue.

Thanks for the input, folks. My wife gave me the Bullring flush mount stainless steel D-ring tie downs for Christmas (gun metal finish), and I spent a little time this afternoon putting them on the truck.

They are very well made, and installation went smoothly. I got the router bit to help trim the plastic - but I only used it on the front stake pockets, since the rears have the plastic sleeves that run down into the pockets, and by the time you do all the cutting to get that out, the rest of the trimming might as well be by hand. I left it as a 'just-barely' fit in the rear in case I get OCD and ever think the trim job under these tie downs needs to be cleaned up with the router. Since the tie downs cover the edge, I don't think that'll ever happen. I like the look and the function - I'm looking forward to using them !

P.S. I was not sure what "do not over-tighten" meant - I used a 1/4" torque wrench and 360 in/lb (3 ft/lb) on the screws.

I put mine in the rear pockets without any trimming at all. Took a little maneuvering to slide it in, but works great. I didn't do the fronts cuz I have a sport roll bar installed. Pretty sure these are built to last. Had a set on my 2nd gen for years and they were fine when I traded in the truck.
