Sorry if this is long and drawn out, but I just want to make sure I get all the information in there.

I'm having issues with my 1999 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9. my son had been using it and it would die when it got hot outside. sometimes it would have to sit for hours before it would start back up. When this happened it would not even crank, all lights and everything worked, it just wouldn't do anything. Once I got the truck back from him, I put in a new crankcase sensor, and did a couple other things to it. It started driving fine so I brought it down to have the smog done. they guys said everything passed, but there were too many sensors that were reading bad. They asked if I had just reset the computer, which I had. They then told me to drive it around for awhile to reset all the sensors and come back to check it out. I had a friend drive it for 2 weeks with no issues and no check engine light coming on. So I brought it back to the smog shop and they ran a scan tool on it and said that the sensor had not reset yet. they told me that I would need to drive at around 45mph for a good 10 to 20 minute. I took the truck down the road and drove it as they requested. I went back and the sensors had reset, so I made an appointment to have it smogged. The next few days the truck was used for very short runs around town. now check engine lights and it ran fine. Monday morning came and I got in the truck to bring it in for the smog appointment, and the check engine light came on. I brought it down to them and they said the codes were P0340 and P1391. I started the truck up and the check engine light was off. they put the scan tool back on it and said the sensor was cleared. they put it in the shop to start the smog test and the check engine light came back on with the same codes. I took the truck across the street to the store before I brought it home to start in on it. when I came out of the store 5 minutes later, the truck wouldn't start. It wasn't like before, this time it would crank, but not start. I came back later with some tools to check It out. I pulled a plug wire and put a plug in it to test for spark, when It was cranked, there was no spark at the plug. I started checking wire. I pulled all the wires from the computer, after I pulled the set closest to the pass fender then plugged it back in, the truck started right up. I cleared the codes and drove home. this morning when I got in the truck to drive it and reset the sensors, it drove find for about 10 minutes then the check engine light came on again with the same codes. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm tired of throwing money at it and just want to sell it, but it won't pass smog until that dam sensor clears. After putting in the crank sensor it drove great for almost a month, then this right when I bring it to get smogged. should I replace the cam sensor or the computer? both cost about the same... New cam sensor 57.00 and a used computer for the wrecking yard is 60.00. is there any way I can test to see which it might be? from what I read, it could even be the crank sensor again. I did buy it from autozone... This was before I read that you should buy it from the dealer. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

A bad CKPS or a bad cam sensor will not make for a no crank issue.
A bad CKPS will drop spark so will a bad ign coil.
A bad cam sensor will not make for a no spark issue, (it controls the injectors)
All sensors should be Mopar brand.

Check all your grounds in the engine bay, all the batt cable ends, have the batt load tested.

The FSM can be downloaded here off RF, its great to have on hand to help deal with this kind of thing.
