Living in PA the salt belt is a winter problem, that I decided to combat. After doing a lot of research as I normally do before taking on a project I finally pulled the trigger to clean my 20” Feul wheels. The cleaning took a little over 9 hours, half way through I thought I may have bit off more than I could chew. The fear of not getting the wheels perfect and the dry times on ceramic coating were haunting my thoughts. As I pressed forward I started to see the amazing results from using a clay bar to remove the caked on brake dust. (I purchased my truck in May of 2018 with the wheels already on so I do not know their age) I decided to just focus on 1 wheel to coat at first to give myself a feeling of accomplishment as I was getting ready to quit. The ceramic coating application was surprisingly easy and the deep gloss it added was enough to get me excited to continue on with the other 3 wheels. Keep in mind I do not have a garage and tackled this project in my basement as we were supposed to get snow and freezing rain over the weekend. I will update this thread as the season progresses and the true test is going to be the brake dust repelling capabilities. The ceramic coating I used was armor shield 9 (ix)
Take note how grey the plastic center cap looks compared to the wheel, I will be coating the center caps as well but I did not think about that ahead of time. the Plastic bolts were polished with flitz and a dremel and the stainless fake bead lock bolts were just coated. I used a combination of Zep orange degreaser, Diaoblo wheel cleaner, p&s coating prep, IPA, and Mothers clay bar (Dawn soap and tap water was my clay lube) Being that I took on this project in my basement with no floor drains I used my MC1375 Steamer to rinse the wheels as I cleaned.
I had no idea the bolts were removable so I did most of the cleaning with them in place.
