Not sure if this could be answered, mostly seeing if anyone ever experience this issue.

Last night I went to work and had no issues. This morning I started my truck and noticed the check engine light was on. I drove home (15 miles) and popped the hood. I noticed my K&N Cold Air Intake Filter was not in place. It was just sitting in the box. I re-attached and secured everything but my check engine light is still on. I am not sure if the air filter is even related to the issue.

Tomorrow I will swing by the shop and have them check the code for the light.

I was just curious if this ever happened to anyone else and if you believe the issues would be related.

Also, don't know if it matters but I live in the Nevada desert, where the temps right now are between 110 and 120 degrees.

No I verified that already to ensure that was not the problem. But do appreciate the thought.

Check the entire filter setup. IAT sensor in the tube? Tube tight on the throttle body?
Filters don't just 'fall off' the tube unless it wasn't secure or there's excessive movement/vibration with the setup.

Get the code read first and go from there. While not a bad idea to double-check everything related to the air intake and make sure it's tight, you also shouldn't be guessing about the code until having it checked. With that said there is a reasonable chance that the air filter triggered the code (sudden change in air flow), and will also say that the check engine light will remain on for many different codes even after you "fix" the problem. Often times it takes multiple key cycles without detecting a fault before the light will go off by itself.

^ code first then go from there. When I installed my Volant CAI I was a big dummy and I guess forgot to tighten the clamp for the filter to the intake tube (was in a huge hurry and time limit, lesson learned on that). Drove probably 30 miles round trip and looked at the filter next day and noticed it wasn't on the tube. My CEL never came on. There's people that run no filter at the track so that definitely wasn't the problem. Fingers crossed nothing bad got sucked in.

Sorry for the delay but thought I should update this post in case someone else has this issue. I checked the code and it came back as a small EVAP leak. Knowing this probably had nothing to do with my intake install, I realized that a weak prior to the check engine light coming on, I installed a Mopar locking gas cap. I removed the Mopar gas cap and put on my original gas cap. I reset the code and as of now the CEL has not come back on.

I appreciate the feedback and assistance from the above. Reading through previous threads is what helped me determine it might be a gas cap problem.
