"Check gauges" light. Oil pressure drops to 0

So as title says. Multiple times the other day my "check gauges" light would come on and my oil pressure would drop to 0. Mainly when I stopped at a light. Couple times on highway. When I started moving again the light would go off and oil pressure came back up. I've checked oil and plenty in the motor.

Anyone had this issue before?

06 dodge ram dually 5.9 4wd.

That would definitely concern me. You aren't hearing or feeling any knocks from the engine by the way? Let's hope it's just electrical. Wish I could be of more help.

I'm not too familer with your engine but on my truck it was the sending unit.Mine is located just above the oil filter.Not a good feeling hearing that check guages dinging and seeing that oil pressure guage at zero.I damn near s@#t my pants.I think mine was about 20 bucks and very easy to replace.Hopefully thats it.Good luck.

Have you checked you oil level ? Could be a clogged pickup screen .

Yes I've checked oil and there is plenty in it. No knocks, grinds or odd noises.

No knocks, grinds, or other odd noises is a strong indicator that it is hopefully electrical. I had to replace the pressure sending unit on my last truck. They go intermittent and then fail completely, but what a rush when you get a warning and no oil pressure showing. It don't take long to lose an engine that way. I'd go ahead and replace the sending unit and then keep an eye on it. Once again, let's hope that's all it is. A Cummins is a pretty tough engine, but they all need oil flowing through them.

You could also check the pressure with a machinal gage. That way you know you have oil pressure and it is just either the sending unit or the gage in the dash.

5.9 Cummins? I'll bet sending unit. Screw a manual gauge into that port and really be surprised just how much oil pressure these engines have.

I'm going to try and replace the sending unit today and see what happens

and do yourself a favor and buy an OEM sensor....not the $10.00 version on ebay advertised as the OEM. I got mine at Summit Racing.
