A couple years ago I found a video on YouTube on how to "superclean" glass. Tried it on my wife's car and now I'll do it on everything I own for the rest of my life. It's dirt cheap and produces the cleanest glass you've ever seen... with a bit of elbow grease.
1) Give the glass a quick wash if you have heavy dirt (mud, bugs) to get rid of.
2) Go over the OUTSIDE of the glass with 0000 steel wool. Steel wool on the inside will destroy any tint film.
3) Clean the glass with quality glass cleaner.
4) Apply regular, cheap carnauba paste wax. The video used RainX. But cheap wax does the same thing, is easier to apply, lasts longer, and is much cheaper.
This process made the windshield so clear it was freaky. I drove the car at night and literally forgot there was glass there until a light reflected off it. I did all the glass and mirrors on her hatchback, waxed inside and out.
My wife is watching me type this and informed me it still works, water rolls off and she barely needs her wipers even multiple months later. I probably still need to redo it, just on principle. But I have no problem seeing it as an annual process unless you live in a rainier area or deal with more bugs. It is definitely a chore, but worth it.
