Thinking about getting my first Ram Truck.
I'm set on the following:

  • 6 speed manual tranny.
  • Diesel engine.
  • Year: preferably a 2016.

I'd like to know how you all make money with your trucks?
Do a lot of you have hauling jobs, like 7-car haulers, and such?
How else can one make money with these trucks?

there are gobs of ways to make money hauling...

custom hauling like you said, if you can get in with a dealership who orders from auctions you can haul from the auction to their lot.

some get into camper hauling. If you are near a factory it would help, and you can haul from the factory to the dealerships or sometimes from dealerships to the new owners.

i've hauled livestock for money as well as many others...

Thanks avolnek, but I was wondering what I might get, without a CDL. Also, I imagine a dually is required for hauling, along with a 5th wheel or an in-bed-peg. Is that always true?

How is your truck set up?

I believe if your rig is rated for 26,001 and + pounds then you need a cdl, or at least a health card, i'm not sure on that side of it.

A dually is obviously more stable but not always needed...

I have a set of 5th wheel rails in my truck. I carry a 5th wheel hitch as well as a gooseneck ball that fits those rails.

If you are wanting to haul full time with the truck you are looking at you may seriously consider the dually as it will provide more stability and generally more pay load capacity...
