When I picked up the truck from the collision center I heard a lot of tapping that was not there previously, before the wreck.

As an aside. I could not check it that evening because of a rain storm.

The next morning the brake pedal was locked in place, could not depress it, and when I tried to start the truck the dash lights flickered and couple times and that was it.

I also noted the 3rd eye brake light was out and also the left headlight. The dealership said they were burnt out.

I was told by the dealership that I need two manifolds for $1,600

Progressive Ins. said that is not being covered because I was rear ended and the dealership said that it would not cause the manifolds to crack.

Any input on the manifolds cracking from getting hit hard when rear ended?

I see that is an average price for manifold replacement.

Thanks in advance!!!

I have seen rear end collisions that only needed a bumper and some that total the vehicle. Really hard to say what your level of damage is, but the way it always works for insurance claims is that your company ( assume you just went through your own) will assess damage and fo initial estimate. Then your take it body shop that does year down and makes a supplemental claim for any additional damage done. They should have found everything in the tear down. Did they replace exhaust up to headers? If yes it is conceivable that they were damaged and missed. You would need to review your policy and find out what the process is to have the claim reopened. What does estimate say about cracks, it is weird both are cracked after the accident and not related. Only thing I can say is to have them replaced quickly and then have a reputable shop study one to see the state of rust on the cracked edges. If not deep and is relatively new looking it could help your case.

Pick your own Auto Body Shop, the ones your Friends & Family use.

A good shop will find things the an Insurance Adjuster will not even think about, the adjuster is just out for $$$
& they know that a good body shop will find other damage, if there is any.

So you went to the dealer AFTER you picked up the truck from the body shop and discovered other issues? If so that's most likely why the insurance company denied it. The truck should have immediately been returned to the body shop and they would have made the claim on further missed damage and had the adjuster return back out if needed to show them.
As for the manifolds, If they are both cracked that could be a result of a direct rear end impact pushing the pipes forward and the pipes pushing into the manifolds cracking them because they are cast iron. If it is just the typical exhaust tick from warped manifolds that is typical on the 5.7 then that would not be covered by any collision coverage. As @tron67j asked was there and exhaust repair work done by the body shop?

If the tailpipes and the rest of the exhaust were pushed forward during the collision your manifolds absolutely could have been broken.
Was the system replaced from the manifolds back ? Crawl under and get some photos for documentation.

As recommended use your own preferred shop ,not one that is necessarily tied to your insurance co.

Keep fighting, don’t settle until you are satisfied.

It really sucks being in such a situation, as lots of times the truck will never be as good as it was.

I had a serious crash and could not stop OCDing about every noise and difference in the way the truck felt and drove afterwards, even though it looked better than when new. I ended up selling it .

Your name sounds like you’ve been picked up by the po po .
