I have noticed that the front seal is slinging a little oil. Upon further inspection the rubber wafer on the face of the harmonic dampener is starting to extrude out of the face of the dampener. I am thinking , replace the seal and the dampener. Has anybody on this forum had the pleasure of performing this procedure that would like provide instruction or pearls of wisdom? I hope so...1996 Dodge RAM 2500, manual shift, 4X4, Cummins 12V

So there may be other ways of doing this but I always just pulled the front cover off and knocked the crank seal in on a bench. The worst part is (besides all the grime) is taking the radiator fan/shroud off. If you have not done so, now is a good time to fix the front cover dowel pin (if you don't know what this is google killer dowel pin). The seal should come with a locator to help you with the depth and a sleeve to help you slide it over the crank. My only other words of advice would be since you are replacing the dampener, you may need to adjust your crank sensor (I used to use a business card for spacing).

INTERESTING to say the least. I ordered a new balancer. I did not order the seal kit as of yet because I am not sure which gasket set I will need. Looking forward to the infamous 'Roll Pin' and get that out of the way. I yanked my fuel cut off solenoid after getting tired of chasing the lack of an electrical signal to it upon turning the ignition to the on position. I made it manual. but did it in a way that a 'purest' could go back to the OEM method after they chase the electrical component of that problem. I really like my truck. Too bad it seems as though the powers at be want me to never be able to afford to drive it or anything else in the future.
