CV Axle or Front Diffy. Help!

So I've been hearing a slight grinding noise under 30 mph. Well I jacked it up today to where the front suspension was at full extension. The driver side tire wouldn't spin freely, but the passenger tire did. The 4x4 wasn't engaged and I know it works since I tested that too. So would the cv axle be causing that or something catching in the front diffy?

Put it in 4 Hi and give it a good shot on the gas pedal, if the cv is toast you,ll hear it grind like a piece of tin on a clothespin being rubbed across some spokes! As soon as that is confirmed though stop and throw it back into 2WD. You can also do it with the wheels cranked to the suspected bad side. If the u-joint either outer or inner is broke then thats what it will do. Your right that in 2wd the shafts including the short driveshaft should turn smoothly when you turn the wheel (rim). Double check that the brake caliper is not stuck too which happens especially in the cold if the shoes are near ***** out and the piston is at or near full extension. Danny

I know it won't be the brakes since I just replaced those 3 months ago. It was able to spin just a little then it catch, I would force it thru, it would then spin freely and catch again. Maybe the ujoints are busted. I don't see any grease coming out of the boots.
