Just changed the oil in my 2017 Big Horn to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20. Bought the truck with 5000 miles on it as it was the service managers demo. Went to Walmart yesterday to get the oil and a Mopar MO-899 filter. Crawl under the truck to remove the filter and notice it seems very small. Definitely smaller than the MO-899. Finally get it loose and pull it out and it is filter number 04892339AA. Just looked it up and it seems to be for a much smaller motor. I see it mentioned for a Sebring 2.4L . Anyone know if this filter should have ever been on this truck? Curious if it is an alternative or if the dealer didn't have the correct one and just used what was available. Hopefully no damage was caused by it being so small.

339AA is what my 2014 5.7 takes. I was told it was because of the clearance for the electric steering. That probably was the original filter at 5,000 miles. Walmart does not have the 339AA either. I ordered them online to save a couple bucks. I believe the Pennzoil Ultra (PUP)5w-20 is recommended and walmart didn`t have that either unless you order online.

Thanks for the reply. After looking around a bit it seems as though that was the original filter that came on the truck from the factory. Just seemed very small for that motor. It doesn't even seem to fit the base you screw the filter onto. The MO-899 fits the base perfectly. Probably going to just stick with the 899 from now on as Walmart carries them and I like that it is a bigger filter. Walmart did not have the Ultra by me either so went with the platinum full synthetic instead. Getting that original filter off was no picnic.

Good to know - I just did my first self oil change and the Mopar filter that was on there from the dealer was much larger than the WIX filter I replaced it with. I suspect the WIX will be easier to remove as it is smaller.

Many are running the larger filter with the electronic steering. I am not one of them. I run the smaller size, but us a synthetic media filter and Change oil every 6000 miles or six months.

I went with the WIX XP filter (supposed to be for synthetic oil) and Mobile 1, which was on sale at Costco 6 quarts for $28. Gotta say she sure sounded smooth on the first start up. Not sure what the dealer used in the first oil change, but the Mobile 1 really has my Hemi purring
